Google Pixel 6 has a brand new 50Mpx sensor
Google for the first time since 2017, when Pixel 2 was introduced brought a new main sensor for the camera. So far, we have had to settle for a 12Mpx sensor, which still produces very good photos today, but in some situations, in the case of last year’s Pixel 5, it started running out of breath. At the same time, Pixels are considered to be one of the best photo cars, especially thanks to the great work of artificial intelligence. Please note that the photos in the article serve only as an example and there is only a fraction of the photos from the entire photo test. If you want to see all photos and videos in full quality, including camera settings, we have prepared a public gallery for you in Google Photos.
Google Pixel 6 Camera Specifications
- 50Mpx main camera, aperture f / 1.85, OIS, laser autofocus
- 12Mpx ultra-wide camera, aperture f / 2.2, angle 114 degrees
- Dual-LED blesk, Pixel Shift, Auto-HDR
- 4K video at 30/60 fps, 1080p video up to 240 fps
The new 50Mpx main camera of the Pixel 6 has optical stabilization, an aperture of f / 1.85 and is finally producing 12.5Mpx images. Unfortunately, it is not yet possible to take photos in 50Mpx resolution and we are not sure if Google will ever allow it. But let’s finally look at the images from the main sensor. The ultra-wide one didn’t dazzle us so much, which you’ll find out in a full review and The telephoto lens in the classic version of Pixel 6 is unfortunately missing.
Photos of new Pixels traditionally have a true color rendering, although the contrast is slightly higher. You can adjust the white balance yourself, but for the purposes of the test, we took pictures like most users. So everything is only in the basic set on the automaton, controlled by artificial intelligence. When comparing photos from Pixel 5 and Pixel 6, it can be seen that Google has made the right decision with the new camera. The camera can capture much more detail and photos are much sharper.
Google Pixel 6 photo night mode
Of course, you can’t forget the great night mode, which belongs to the absolute top. The photos you see are actually taken in very low light conditions (even in complete darkness), yet we see details and colors in them that you will not see with the eye. You will also be pleased that Pixel 6 does not try to turn night into day.
Petr Mišák, founder of Android World
As a long-time user of Google phones, I am excited about the new Pixel 6, but at the same time disappointed. The phone is really fast, which was kind of expected, but enough for my taste big, even difficult to control when shooting. But the camera pleasantly surprised, especially at night. Where Pixel 5 has already used night shooting mode, Pixel 6 has made do with the normal mode and you know it.
Google Pixel 6 video recording
At its Pixel Fall Launch conference, Google has heard several times that, in addition to photos, video recording has been significantly improved. Of course, this is due to the new sensor and its own Google Tensor chipset. And the result? It is clearly above average. Pixel 6 shoots great videos in good light, while the optical stabilization also works well and is definitely one of the best-shooting Android phones. However, we expected that when Google finally had its own chipset and new camera, it would approach the new iPhones in this category. And that, unfortunately, did not happen. So the apple trees have a pond for themselves again.
