How do I move photos from Gmail to Google Photos?

Gmail and Google Photos are probably among the best that Google has to offer from the perspective of Android smartphone users. In one, all e-mails are within reach, the other covers the storage of favorite images.

Although the pair of services have always been close to each other, until recently they did not quite understand each other. That is changing now. Gmail photos can now be saved to Google Photos with a single click. If you haven’t switched to one of the alternatives after the recent cancellation of unlimited storage, you’re sure to enjoy the improvement.

A better link between Gmail and Google Photos was announced in May 2021. It’s just that photos received via email can be stored directly in the Google Photos store.

It’s a nice improvement, but it still has some limitations. The biggest one is the fact that direct saving only works for JPEG images. The second major drawback is that it all only works in a web browser. Therefore, we still do not walk on smartphones in practice.

How do I move photos from Gmail to Google Photos?

As we mentioned, all this currently only works for JPEG images. Once this file is attached to an email, you can save it directly to Google Photos.

• Use the mouse to go to the image preview that is part of the email.
• Select the Google Photos logo icon from the options that appear at the bottom of the image.
• The first time you use this option, you’ll be notified that a copy of the item will be saved in Google Photos.
• Just confirm it. You will no longer see a similar warning and save the file straight away.

Images and photos stored in Google Photos this way have a check mark visible in the logo icon. Clicking this icon will redirect you to Google Photos.

There is also an alternative to storing content in Google Photos. Just click on the image in the e-mail and select the option “Save a copy in Photos” via the three dot symbol in the upper right corner.
