Honor Magic V official: foldable phone with giga screen

Honor has announced its first foldable phone with the Magic V. Striking is the large 7.9-inch screen and the camera setup consisting of three 50 MP cameras. Honors top device costs converted and including VAT about 1679 euros.

Recently, it became known out of the blue that Honor wants to present a first foldable phone. The Magic V comes with a smaller cover screen and a large main screen that you can unfold. It therefore largely follows the design of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and the OPPO Find N. The device is currently only announced in China and nothing is known about wider availability.

7.9 inch screen

The Magic V is such a phone with which the former subsidiary of Huawei puts itself back on the map. It is the first to have a smaller 6.45-inch Full HD+ OLED screen on the outside. The panel comes with a narrow 21:9 aspect ratio and has a refresh rate of 120Hz.

The screen on the outside is a lot bigger and measures 7.9 inches. This makes the panel larger than the main screen of the Z Fold 3 (7.6 inches) and the Find N (7.1 inches). It is also an OLED screen, but one with a 90 Hz refresh rate. The resolution is 2272 x 1984 pixels. In both screens is a small camera notch for the selfie cameras.

Three 50 MP cameras

You can also assume that the Magic V will perform strongly thanks to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. It also features a generous 12 GB of RAM along with 256 GB of storage. There is also a model with the same amount of RAM and 512 GB of storage. The battery of the Magic V is a 4,750 mAh one that is charged with a 66W charger.

You can also say that the camera on this foldable phone is interesting with the three 50 MP sensors. In addition to a main camera, there is room for a greeting angle sensor and a so-called ‘spectrum enhanced camera’. The intent of that sensor is that it captures richer colors on a wider color spectrum. The selfie cameras are a pair of 42 MP sensors.

Furthermore, Honor comes with even more striking features. For example, there is a security chip that protects sensitive information on the phone. The Magic V also has a graphene-based cooling system and an ‘IMAX-enhanced certificate’. The latter means that the phone is optimized for playing IMAX movie content.

Price and availability

For now, the launch of the Magic V is limited to its home country of China. There is no word yet on plans for a European launch. Honor is already working on a European comeback, but whether an arrival to the Netherlands and Belgium is immediately on the agenda, Honor has not yet announced.

The Magic V is on sale in China from 9999 yuan. Converted and with the application of VAT, this means that the phone is for sale from 1679 euros. For the model with 512 GB you pay 1846 euros. It comes in Black, Space Silver and Burnt Orange colours.
