Honor 50 and 50 Lite with Google services are coming to Europe

This month we wrote about the plans of the Chinese Honor to release the 50 series in Europe. The high word is now out: Honor itself announced today that the Honor 50 series will be available worldwide from November 2.

Honor, Huawei and China

Below we will discuss the specifications of the devices in detail, but the most important thing is that an Honor device is again supplied with Google apps. That’s how it is: Honor was part of Huawei and due to trade restrictions from the United States, Huawei, and therefore Honor, was no longer allowed to use Google services. However, in November 2020, Huawei sold its subsidiary brand to “Shenzen Zhixin New Information Technology” for about $15 billion. This company is not (yet) on the so-called ‘Entity List’ of the United States and can therefore simply use Google services.

However, the question is for how long Honor can use the Google services. Shenzen Zhixin New Information Technology is controlled by the Shenzhen Assets Supervision and Administration Commission. This is a committee managed by the State Council of China, so Honor is now actually directly owned by the Chinese state. The question is whether the United States will see this as a problem.

Not completely separated from Huawei

Despite the fact that Honor is officially separate from Huawei, there are still some similarities here and there. See the image below as an example.

Specifications

On to the specifications of the new devices from Honor. The Honor 50 series has two devices with the 50-lite and ‘regular’ 50. The Honor 50 runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G processor and features a 6.57-inch OLED panel with a refresh rate of 120 hertz. The device also has 128 GB of storage, 6 GB of RAM and runs on Android 11. The battery has a capacity of 4300 mAh and can be charged with 66 watts. Finally, the device has a 108 MP camera, supported by an 8 MP wide-angle sensor, a 2 MP depth sensor and a 2 MP macro camera.

The Honor 50 Lite has a 6.67-inch LCD panel, 128GB of storage and 6GB of RAM. This device also has a 4300mAh battery that can be charged with 66 watts. The cameras of the device are a 64 MP variant, with an 8 MP wide-angle sensor and again two 2 MP sensors for estimating depth and taking macro photos.

There is also a third device in the 50 series, the Honor 50 Pro. However, it is not yet known whether it will be available worldwide and therefore not whether we will ever see it in the ‘Low Lands’.

Prices and availability

The Honor 50 and 50 Lite will be available in Europe from Tuesday for 529 and 299 euros respectively. Presumably, the phones will be available in Honor’s own web store.
