Historical Calendar makes your day even better

You probably haven’t missed it: today is Keti Koti. Unfortunately, there are few apps that teach more about black culture, or show, for example, which entrepreneurs all have a black background. That’s a pity, because we would have liked this App of the Week to focus on these cultures. If you have another tip for a good app that deals with the many shades of black culture, we’d love to hear from you. Today we are talking about the Historical Calendar app.

Historical Calendar

Of course we like to look ahead and start a day fresh to make something beautiful out of it again, but it’s pretty cool and interesting to get an insight into what to celebrate every day, but also to know about our past world. That can be significant, as the King also pointed out in his apology to Suriname this weekend. There is also a mention of this Surinamese holiday in the Historical Calendar.

You can see per day (but you can also look forward or backward) what happened on that day in the past. Each day is divided into different headlines: headlines, events, births, deaths, celebrations and weather extremes. So it can be about the opening of an amusement park, a comet flying past or an extreme disaster. Very instructive, especially because it makes you think about how the world is now, after this event, or how the world has not changed at all. You can also set up notifications so that you receive notifications about events.

Events from history

If you don’t want to see ads, you pay 2.49 euros for this app, but it also does a great job with ads. They bring some extra color to this somewhat simplistic app: there are often pictures with the events, but it is also very heavy in text and somewhat straightforward in design. Which is a shame as it could do with a fresh new look. There is also a lot of information in the app that does not seem complete: then suddenly there is a link somewhere and then you have to be really curious if you want to tap it. That said, the app is there to convey information and it does it well. Nice to know what happened on a certain day and therefore definitely an app to return to every day.
