Here’s how to transfer your account

Netflix isn’t giving up the fight against account sharing. If you want or have to leave your previous account, you can transfer your profile to a new subscription. We’ll show you how the Netflix profile transfer works.

Shared accounts have been a thorn in the side of the Netflix streaming service for some time. The entertainment group has been actively countering this for a few months now.

It was only in May that Netflix introduced an additional fee for account sharing in Germany, which is very popular with users. Since then, customers can only use the same account if they either live in one household or pay the additional fee.

If you don’t want to pay this fee and prefer to take out your own subscription, you can also use the Netflix profile transfer. This allows you to transfer all your saved content to a new account.

This is how Netflix profile transfer works

The entertainment group Netflix had already announced the profile transfer in October. With this function, users who leave an existing account can transfer all their data to a new profile.

Of course, this is not only helpful if an account was previously shared across several households. The profile transfer can also be necessary when leaving the flat share or the parental home or after a separation.

Activate profile transfer

You can only transfer the profile via the browser. Open the Netflix website here and log into the account in which your current profile is stored.

Now you should first check in the settings whether the option for a profile transfer is activated. To do this, click on the small arrow next to your profile picture in the upper right corner.

Click on “Account” to open your account settings. At the bottom of this page you will find your settings. Here you will see the option “Enable profile transfers”. Click on this option and confirm your selection on the next page by clicking on “Allow”.

If, on the other hand, you see the option “Disable profile transfers” in your settings, no further steps are necessary. Then the transfer is already active for your account.

Transfer Netflix profile: Here’s how

If the profile transfer is activated for your account, you can do it in just a few steps. To do this, click on the small arrow next to your profile picture again. Here you will already find the option “Perform profile transfer”.

First select the profile that should be part of a new account in the future. Then click on “Start profile transfer”.

Here you have to enter the e-mail address and password of your new account and you can then complete the move.

You can now access your recommendations, history, or list again in your new account. Saved games and settings are also carried over.
