Hello baby boom: not so many babies born in ten years as in 2021
The cause of the baby boom has not been investigated, but according to CBS, the corona crisis was the right time for Dutch people to start having children. For example, we again had to deal with a lot of corona measures and combining work and private life became a bit more practical because of working from home, says sociologist Tanja Traag of Statistics Netherlands.

In ten years, not as many children were born as in 2021. Especially in Brabant they have not been sitting still. The number of births there was 9 percent higher in the past year than a year earlier. In Friesland and Limburg this was an increase of 7 percent. Statistics Netherlands actually did not expect this increase until 2023 or 2024, because according to researchers, the trend of women becoming mothers later and later will come to an end. Traag suspects that this development started somewhat earlier due to the corona crisis.
