HBO Max not working for many, many problems with account and app

Complaints about HBO Max and the accompanying app are raining on social media and in the Google Play Store. The app currently has a score of only 2.2 stars and you will find an overview of the most common complaints here.

HBO Max

HBO Max is an American streaming service that offers movies, series and documentaries from HBO, Cartoon Network, DC and Warner Bros. The streaming service also has its own productions under the name Max Originals. HBO Max has also officially started in the Netherlands since March, but that start is not entirely smooth if we look at the reviews in the Google Play Store.

1. Problems with the Dutch subtitles

There are various complaints about the lack of Dutch subtitles in various series, incorrect subtitles and also non-synchronous subtitles. For example, subtitles are missing at One Tree Hill, Smalville and Person of Interest, according to complaints on Twitter. Some HBO Max users say that the Chromecast subtitles are a disaster.

Subtitling via Chromecast is a disaster. Via Chromecast, Hbomax apparently uses CC (closed caption) instead of normal subtitles. As a result, text is in a black bar, which is also high and not centered in the image.

2. Casting Issues

There are also issues with casting content, according to some users: “Very bad app for casting. 3. Subscription/Account Issues

Several issues have also been reported regarding the subscription to the streaming service. For example, there are users who see the message ‘No provider in the Netherlands’ in the app. HBO Max immediately takes the reports via Twitter. The streaming service asks these people to private message the email address they use for the account so they can check it right away. There are also complaints about the cancellation of subscriptions because the payment was not successful. People are afraid that they will lose their lifetime 50% discount because of this.

My account has also been terminated unsolicited, because there would be problems with my automatic bank statement. Makes no sense and balance is just sufficient. I have to renew my “payment details” but then I will lose my 50% discount per month. Smart trick HBO max, but this really makes no sense and very customer-unfriendly!

Subscribing was already a disaster and now after a month the temporary access is gone. Contacted customer service yesterday and it would be solved within a day, I just had to send a proof of payment. Still no access. Extremely ready..!

4. Other Problems

Various issues related to the quality of the streams are also reported, such as bugs and network issues.

App can’t play the video, if the video starts playing after 5 attempts, the picture freezes and the sound continues.

Constantly get network error or notification offline while other apps just work. After several restarts of the app, it finally works again. If this is solved maybe ***
