Harry Potter: a TV series in preparation at HBO with several seasons
The Harry Potter franchise has not said its last word, with HBO preparing a TV series comprising several seasons. It would also be an opportunity to do a reboot with new actors and therefore start from scratch.
According Bloomberg, Warner Bros. Discovery (HBO’s parent company) is in talks with JK Rowling, author of the Harry Potter books, to join the series as a producer. David Zaslav (boss of Warner Bros Discovery) and Casey Bloys (boss of HBO) do what is necessary to convince her. Once she’s on board, the project, which is still in its infancy, will have to find a screenwriter.
The Harry Potter series would adapt each of the books into one season; there are seven novels in total, meaning seven seasons. The TV seasons would allow the series to delve into the wizarding world of the books, with fewer cuts than the original films, which began in 2001 with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone to end 10 years later with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2.
The plan is part of Warner Bros. Discovery’s efforts to bring some of its greatest sagas back to life. This strategy started a few months ago with the announcement of the takeover of DC Studios by James Gunn and Peter Safran, and continued a few weeks ago with the announcement of new films. Lord of the Rings.
There is currently no information on the cast or the release date. But the formalization of the Harry Potter series would take place next week if everything goes as planned and the agreement is reached with JK Rowling.
