Whether this is decisive for a racing game or not, we cannot adequately evaluate at the moment, nevertheless the first preview mentions the story, and not always only in an optimistic spirit.

If you have been through the story part of the last part of the F1 series, which is also being worked on by Codemasters developers, then you should have a fairly good idea of ​​what awaits you at GRID Legends. Leaving aside the aforementioned cutscenes, the story traditionally focuses on an outsider – Driver 22 – who must first gain the trust of his teammate, more precisely his colleague Jume Tanaka. When he succeeds in doing so on the track, the word of cooperation within the team and the effort to beat the rival for the rest of the season come into play. Of course, the circumstances associated with the management of your Seneca Racing team and probably other, rather non-racing influences will also come into play, so that the overall picture is complex and the player understands that even the competitor does not only solve his performance on the track.

Unfortunately, it is performance that is linked to the Video Games Chronicle magazine, which has made a significant impact in the F1 2021 experience. Because the story is very linear and provides almost no room for any choices or changes, GRID Legends situations associated with meeting the set objectives. If you don’t really play with the difficulty setting and reach for it normal settings, you will probably finish first, even if you wanted to place in tenth place. According to the VGC, however, the story does not think about it, no one will even deny that the outsider and the newcomer managed to win in a field full of veterans and the game continues as if you narrowly fulfilled the original assignment. There are also situations where you enter the last round in the first place and the engineer urges you to withstand the pressure from the rival you overtook in the first round and is currently separated from him by a few places and a lot of seconds ahead.

As for the length of the story, the VGC, as well as the Gamereactor editors, estimate it at about 5-6 hours, after which you will naturally have the game as such with more than 250 possible races, 130 tracks and more than a hundred vehicles. In this respect, GRID Legends could meet what players expect, and from earlier indications, the Codies seemed to be returning by processing the races to the very beginning of the series. There will be races in cities – specifically in London, Moscow and Paris, as well as on circuits or off-road tracks. Unfortunately, only a few previews analyze the driving model in more detail, so we can rely mainly on official videos, such as a long demonstration a few paragraphs higher. It is quite clear from this that even GRID Legends will not experiment too much and will give players a fun arcade that could be a pleasant but not frustrating challenge with the appropriate difficulty settings. After all, the first part of Race Driver: Grid from 2008 managed to balance the approach to racing almost perfectly and in combination with the already very elaborate accidents at this time, this return to the roots could succeed.
