Google’s response to ChatGPT: The AI battle has begun
The extremely successful chatbot ChatGPT has brought Google onto the scene. Now they want to respond with their own AI tool. LaMDA could soon be made available to the public – so that users do not switch to Bing after all.
ChatGPT Response: Google invites to AI event
Google was caught off guard with the chatbot ChatGPT. The competition from Microsoft is heavily involved with the operator OpenAI and has already invested billions. The alarm bells are said to have rung at Google. Insiders say that Google is currently all available powers on their own AI tools as the language model LaMDA focuses.
What exactly is Google up to, could show up in the near future. The group has invited to an event for February 8, 2023. The announcement said Google wanted to show at the event how artificial intelligence is “changing the way people search for information.” AI makes it possible to find what you are looking for “more naturally and intuitively” (source: The Verge). This sounds a lot like a ChatGPT alternative.
This also fits Statement by Google CEO Sundar Pichai, according to which users can expect “the latest and most powerful language models as a search companion”. Microsoft also wants to use ChatGPT in its Bing search engine.
In contrast to ChatGPT, LaMDA should be able to to react to current events. The ChatGPT data sets end in the publicly available version as early as 2021. In the past, LaMDA caused a stir when Google researcher Blake Lemoine attested the language model to be conscious.

That ChatGPT to a real danger for Google Gmail inventor Paul Buchheit recently said. In his opinion, the AI tool from OpenAI will be responsible for the destruction of Google in two years at the latest. Even if Google could close the gap with LaMDA, the existing business model could not be transferred to the new AI world.
