Bard for Chromebooks
AI chatbots are the latest showpieces from the big tech companies Microsoft and Google. The former integrates OpenAI’s popular ChatGPT into its search engine and browser, while Google is working on its own alternative called Bard.
Bard will soon have to make Google’s search engine smarter. You will not only see search results, but Bard can also give a nuanced answer to questions you ask. Now the first traces of Bard have also been found in Chrome OS, because the language bot will be given a place in the search function of the taskbar. With that function you can currently already search through apps, files and results from the internet.
Bard’s integration is called ‘Conversational Search’ and it already comes with a Chrome flag. That is an experimental function that we may be able to test in the long term. When that will be the case is not known.

Proceed with caution
It is striking that there is more secrecy on the part of Google than we are used to from the company. New features are regularly discovered in the code of Google’s software, but this time Google has removed a lot of information after discovering it. 9To5Google knows that.
A possible explanation for Google’s caution may lie in Bard’s problematic demonstration last week. Bard then gave a wrong answer to a question. In Google’s demo, the chatbot said that the James Webb telescope was the first to take a picture of a planet outside our solar system, when in fact it was the European Very Large Telescope. That caused ridicule on social media and Google’s stock also took a hit.
