Google TV users are reporting that HBO Max is gone

The HBO Max app has mysteriously disappeared from the television operating system Google TV. It’s been going on for a few days now and several Google TV users are reporting that they miss the purple streaming service in their drop-down menu.

The question is whether it is a mistake or whether it is deliberate. Of course, it could be related to HBO Max and Discovery+ going together. Although we haven’t even had HBO Max in the Netherlands for a year yet, the merger of Warner Bros. and Discovery launch a new streaming service likely to be called Max. The idea was that it would appear in the summer of 2023, after which HBO Max and Discovery + would disappear, but Warner Bros already indicated last year that the merger of the companies is going so well that the new streaming service would probably come earlier in 2023.

Still, it’s a bit strange to have an app completely disappear. After all, people pay for HBO Max and you just want to be able to stream it every day. Unfortunately, it applies not only to Google TV, but also to Chromecast and the Google TV mobile app. Very annoying, because the new The Last of Us just appeared last week, a video game-based series that is very successful. Tomorrow the second episode will appear in the Netherlands, but it is not so easy to watch it now that the app has disappeared from Google TV.

It gets even crazier, because HBO Max can still be found in the account settings as a service that you can link to your Google TV. As a result, it seems strongly that it is a mistake that HBO Max has hidden. On the other hand, Netflix has also been aware of Google TV for a while when the operating system was just launched. You can no longer find Netflix in Google TV search results.
