Google TV app now available on your iPhone
In April, Google officially brought the Google TV app to the Netherlands, but then it was only available for Android devices. Now iOS users can also get started with this app. That’s good news, because it packs a lot more features than its predecessor.
You can still buy and rent movies, but the Google TV app also integrates streaming services like Disney Plus and HBO Max. It is therefore possible to scroll through the range of these services. If you are looking for a certain title and it is available on one of the platforms, you can also play it directly. Provided you have a subscription of course.
You can also keep a watch list in the app with the films and series you still want to see. Adding titles to your watch list is very simple: with every movie or series you will see a watch list button on the left, next to the options to mark a title as viewed, or to (dis)like it. The app also gives recommendations based on your viewing behavior.
It is striking that the largest player, Netflix, is missing from the Google TV app on your iPhone. It is not clear why exactly. NPO Plus and smaller players such as ViaPlay are also not to be found.
Google TV app is also a remote control
The Google TV app also acts as a remote control for TVs with Android OS and for Chromecast with Google TV. This streaming device will be officially available in the Netherlands from June 21 for 69.99 euros. This makes it a lot cheaper than the Apple TV, for which you pay at least 159 euros.
The Google TV app can be downloaded from the link below. If you had the Google Play Movies and TV app on your iPhone, you can update it via the App Store.
