Google Tensor was not enough in the benchmark for the three-year-old Apple A12 Bionic

The recently introduced Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro smartphones surprised the brand’s fans mainly with their own 5 nm chipset Google Tensor. Enthusiasm may now be dampened by the portal’s information GizmoChinathat this chipset was not enough in the benchmark for three years old Apple A12 Bionic.

Google Pixel 6 Pro was not enough for the Apple iPhone from 2018

The results of the Geekbench benchmark show that the Tensor in the Google Pixel 6 Pro smartphone scored 1012 points in the single-core test and 2760 points in the multi-core test. In contrast, the Apple A12 Bionic chipset in the Apple iPhone XS Max smartphone scored 1117 points in the single-core and 2932 points in the multi-core test. It is a smartphone that came on the market in 2018.

But this is not all. Tensor is also slower compared to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset, which is found in most Android flagships in 2021. Of course, its results may improve with the next software optimization, but it’s still not a good business card for Google.

What could be the reason for a bad Google Tensor chipset result?

Portal GizmoChina justifies the worse result by considering that Google has sacrificed higher performance for better cooling and battery life. According to a review of the portal XDA-developers however, Google Pixel 6 Pro has average endurance and the same overheating issues as other smartphones. For now, Google can enjoy at least a great result of the graphics core of the chipset in the 3D Mark benchmark test.

It should also be noted that when introducing the Pixel 6 models, Google claimed that the main focus of the Tensor chipset is the rapid processing of AI algorithms and machine learning. This is confirmed, for example, by the camera’s smart functions such as Magic Eraser or the instant translation of voice into foreign languages offline.
