Google Pixel Tablet has a fingerprint scanner on the side

Google’s upcoming tablet will have a fingerprint scanner on the side. That means that the same technology is not applied as, for example, in Pixel 7, the phone series that has a fingerprint scanner under the screen. The future foldable Pixel phone would also use a fingerprint scanner on the side.

Fingerprint Scanner

It is not a very strange choice for a telephone: with a natural telephone grip you often already have your thumb free to not only use the touch screen, but also to press buttons on the side, for example. A fingerprint scanner on the side is therefore not a bad solution at all. At a phone.

With a tablet, that can be more challenging, because because of its size you often grab it with one hand, while the other hand uses the touch screen. There is therefore not much room for, for example, a thumb that can press on the side of the tablet. So it’s exciting to see how Google will fix that.

If it is true that the Pixel Tablet will indeed have a fingerprint scanner on the side. At the moment it is still a rumor, which originated from information about the screens. 91Mobiles discovered in the Android code that Google has two devices in the works for which the user experience of a fingerprint scanner on the side is being tested.

Pixel Notepad

Immediately some more details are involved, because one would be called Y, with the scanner on the left or right side and you can choose between the configuration ‘folded’ and ‘unfolded’. That already gives away that it would probably be the still mystery-shrouded Pixel Notepad, the foldable phone that Google would make. Unfolded, the screen is 1840 x 2208 pixels: a size that we heard in the first rumours.

When folded, the screen comes out at 1080 x 2100 pixels. The information also shows that the inner screen of the Pixel Notepad would be 123 x 148 millimeters with an average brightness of 800 nits (but peaks up to 1200 nits). In addition, the screen would have a refresh rate of 120 Hz.

The other device would have an X as a reference, with the fingerprint scanner on the edge at the top or bottom. It will most likely be located on the on/off button. The tablet itself may have a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels. Or at least one of the tablets, because it is not said that Google will stick to one variant. On the other hand, not much has been said about this new Pixel gadget anyway, so we’re curious to see if these rumors are right.

What do you think of not having a fingerprint scanner in the screen, but outside it? Leave it in the comments.
