Google Pixel 7: what can we expect?

Pixel phones are the first phones to see new Android versions. Hence, the Google Pixel 7 is followed with great interest.

Where Apple and Samsung seem to be taking it a bit easier this year, newcomers such as Motorola, Nothing and Xiaomi have fanatically attacked the once unassailable two market leaders. But around a phone it remains a bit quiet. The Google Pixel 7. Yet we know that Google’s hardware division is certainly not averse to technological innovations.

Google Pixel 7 builds on initial success

With the first versions of the Pixel, Google was still looking for a success formula. With the Pixel 6, Google has managed to tap a larger market for the first time. It was a device that could compete with the flagships of the market leaders for a competitive price.

The company is now building on this success, which does not mean that the Google Pixel 7 is a boring device. Because there are a lot of technical innovations hidden behind the facade of this device.

The Indian Market, the Lion’s Den

For the first time, the Google Pixel is now also for sale in the Netherlands and, for example, also in India. The entry into the Indian market is especially daring. Indians are very price conscious and that Google dares to venture into this market, hitherto dominated by Chinese brands, that wants to see that strongly believe in their product.

Indeed, the Google Pixel 7 has many of the features of a Chinese flagship phone: great value for money and a top-notch camera. It is likely that the Chinese competitors will now start to worry. You can now buy this special device in 17 countries. Connoisseurs therefore expect that the turnover of this device will probably explode.

New features in the Google Pixel 7

The main advantage of the Google Pixel 7 over the competition is the Tensor G2 chipset. Google has specially designed this to be able to handle the artificial intelligence of its own Tensor platform.

This means that all kinds of artificial intelligence applications run orders of magnitude faster than on a traditional processor. This type of processor is less suitable for classic numbers, but built to perform difficult AI jobs such as improving photos and improving sound quality more efficiently.

Appearance of a flagship

The appearance is also a bonus. The phone has the appearance of a premium device. Less is that the screen comes off a bit dull. So for a really avid gamer, this phone may be less suitable. But this is certainly a phone that you can show off.

Powerful AI functions thanks to Tensor G2 chipset

This smartphone follows other flagship phones with facial recognition and face unlock, for which the Tensor G2 AI chipset is of course very suitable.

As with all Pixels, the Google Pixel 7 is the first phone to run the very first version of Android 13. Another job that the Pixel 7 is much better at than other phones, thanks to the Tensor G2 AI chipset, is speech recognition. In fact, this works so well on the Pixel 7 that almost immediately after you say something it is converted into text.

AI brings camera performance to Apple level

The superior image processing, thanks to the artificial intelligence, means that the Google Pixel 7 also gives photos in low light that are not inferior to those of Apple. One of the biggest improvements is not visible from the outside. The sensor is 25% larger, which significantly increases the amount of light collected and therefore the quality of the photo.

With a 50 megapixel main camera and 12 megapixel widescreen lens, the cameras are also of good quality. You could say that the pixel binning of the iPhone is matched by the artificial intelligence on the Pixel 7.

Charging performance between iPhone and top Chinese brands

The battery is large at 4355 mAh, but not impressive. You cannot go longer than a day without recharging with this phone. With a fairly good 30 watts charging capacity, the Pixel 7 is somewhere between the very fast-charging Chinese models and the slower-charging iPhone and Samsung Galaxy S22. You can charge the device for half in half an hour.

Conclusion Google Pixel 7

The Google Pixel 7 is probably the smartphone where artificial intelligence is most decisive for the performance. In that respect, it is in many ways the future of the smartphone. You will notice this in the excellent photos, the smooth speech in text conversion, even in a noisy environment.

However, the processor for classic computer tasks is less fast than that of competitors such as Samsung and Apple. The somewhat limited battery life is also a drawback. With a price of around 850 euros, and a characteristic appearance, it is an affordable flagship phone.
