Apple and Mercedes are now in cahoots: iPhone manufacturers share technology

Apple has been accused of developing its own vehicle for years, and the iPhone manufacturer is already working with various car manufacturers. From now on, some models from Mercedes-Benz will therefore receive a very special Apple technology that was previously only reserved for the AirPods and some Beats headphones.

So far, if you want to use 3D audio from Apple Music with support for Dolby Atmos (known as “Spatial Audio”), you can only do this with different models of AirPods and Beats headphones. An immersive audio experience that can only be used within the Apple device family.

Apple Music and Mercedes-Benz: 3D audio with Dolby Atmos in the car for the first time

This restriction will no longer apply in the future because the iPhone manufacturer and Mercedes-Benz have now announced that 3D audio from Apple Music with support for Dolby Atmos is now available for the first time in Mercedes-Benz vehicles is (Source: Apple). Apple has not yet revealed whether other car manufacturers will follow. This means that the technology is initially available exclusively from the German luxury manufacturer from Untertürkheim.

However, not all of the car manufacturer’s models will receive the coveted feature. The full integration of Apple Music with 3D audio into the MBUX infotainment system can therefore initially be found in the Maybach S-Class, the regular S-Class and the purely electric vehicles EQE, EQE SUV, EQS and EQS SUV.

Subscription mandatory

Important to know: A subscription to Apple Music is of course mandatory. Because in order to be able to use the feature, certain and special mixes for “3D audio with Dolby Atmos” are required. Only with them does the sound come from all directions and that’s only available with Apple Music. Adding to the growing catalog of such recordings are 3D Audio playlists curated by Apple, such as Driving in 3D Audio and Hip-Hop in 3D Audio.
