Google Pixel 2 has lost its premium software feature in Google Photos

Other benefits relate to Google services and their features, which are normally paid for. Google Photos comes with a free backup of your original size photos and videos. With a regular Google Account, users could only back up photos and videos in limited resolution for free.

Unfortunately, this software benefit is only valid for three years with Google Pixel smartphones, as well as a three-year system update warranty. The Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL smartphones were launched by the manufacturer in October 2017, so this period has already expired in 2021. Backed up photos and videos will be saved to Google Account storage from this month. On the one hand, it’s a pity, because older Pixels are still excellent photo phones today. On the other hand, most owners of Google Pixel 2 and 2 XL smartphones have already switched to a newer model, either from Google or another brand.

Free limited-resolution backups of Google Photos will end soon

Unfortunately, the owners of all Android smartphones will soon lose the possibility of unlimited backup of photos and videos in limited resolution in Google Photos. All files uploaded after June 21, 2021 will count to 15 GB of free storage. This is part of every Google Account, unless the customer has subscribed to more storage. The same system works for other Google services, such as Google Drive and Gmail.

You can back up your photos and videos without change until June 21, 2021. Google will then contact you and notify you when you are approaching your storage limit. So if you want to archive your photo albums for free, you only have less than half a year to do so.
