Google Maps starts rolling out environmentally friendly routes in the Netherlands

Google Maps has started rolling out a new feature. The environmentally friendly routes that you can plan are now available for users in the Netherlands.

Eco-friendly routes

Google Maps finally gets the long-awaited feature added to the app. The eco-friendly routes were introduced to the public months ago, but they never became available, at least not in our country. Google has now taken the first step, which makes it clear that the function is really going to be rolled out. The Netherlands is one of the forty countries where the option will become available.

According to Google, the routes are aimed at lower fuel consumption. Our overview of cheap refueling apps is of course handy, but this option offers another option to save fuel. By choosing an environmentally friendly route, according to Google, you can save on fuel and also reduce CO2 emissions. You can see the fuel savings and travel time when planning your trip. The environmentally friendly routes in Google Maps can be recognized by the leaf that is displayed next to the route. The current traffic situation and crowds are still taken into account.

Another improvement that Google Maps is rolling out is the ability to select what kind of car you drive. A car on petrol, diesel, hybrid or an electric car. You can indicate this in the settings, with which the routes can be presented even better. The different engines are each more economical in their own ways, which is then taken into account in certain choices. The video below shows the new feature.

For now, it is only a matter of waiting for the update that Google will finally roll out in the app. This one won’t be long in coming, but we know from experience that this may take a while. The environmentally friendly routes in Google Maps will be available for Android, Apple iOS, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
