If you own a Pixel smartphone or a Pixel smartwatch, then a new update should be available to you right now. Google has released the feature drop for December 2022 and it really packs a punch. Functions will be delivered that Pixel 7 owners in particular are waiting for.

Google makes Pixel devices better

With the December update, Google not only introduced the obligatory security improvements, but also new functions for its smartphones and smartwatches. You will now receive the following new features:

  • On the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro (test) you can now use VPN by Google One and surf the web more securely. The VPN service is directly integrated and costs you no money.
  • The security and privacy settings of your Pixel phone can now be evaluated much better by you, because the Pixel phone shows you important information in different categories. If something is wrong, you will be given suggestions for a solution. This feature also exists on older Pixel phones.
  • Clear calling will also be introduced for the new Pixel 7 phones. This filters out background noise much better and you should be understood more clearly even in noisy environments.
  • Starting with the Pixel 6 (Pro), the recorder can now distinguish the people who are speaking when recording. You will see the respective paragraphs in real time and can then assign names to the votes. So you know exactly who said what and when.
  • The snoring monitoring of the Pixel Watch (test) is now also compatible with the Pixel 6 (Pro). However, it is still a Fitbit premium feature.
  • With new wallpapers you can make your pixel phones and pixel watch more individual.
  • You can also share your digital car key with your friends so that they can use their Pixel phone to open and start the car.
  • Google has also optimized the search on Pixel phones.
  • Voicemail transcription now works on Pixel 4a and newer.
  • Spatial audio for the Pixel Buds Pro will follow in January 2023.

Software updates are available for download

The December update is available for download worldwide for Pixel smartphones starting with the Pixel 4a and the Pixel Watch. On my Pixel 6 Pro, the update was just over 500 MB and could be installed directly.
