Google is working on paying with Google Wallet via a QR code

Google announces that it will soon be possible to pay in stores with smartphones without NFC via Google Wallet. This opens the door for wider adoption of mobile payments and makes it easier for people who don’t have an NFC phone to use this convenient payment method.

What is NFC?

NFC, or Near Field Communication, is a technology that enables communication between two devices using radio waves. It is often used for contactless payments, where the smartphone must be held close to a compatible payment terminal to complete the transaction. However, not all smartphones are equipped with NFC, which has until now excluded some users from this payment experience.

Google Wallet works with phones without NFC

Google now also wants to reach this target group with a new option for Google Wallet. This popular mobile payment service from Google now also enables smartphones without NFC to pay in stores. For that, Google uses a different technology called SoundWave, which uses audio signals instead of radio waves. This allows you to simply scan the QR code displayed on the payment terminal with your smartphone, and the system can complete the transaction through a unique audio signal.

This smart approach by Google ensures that more people can now use mobile payments via Wallet. However, the phones must support SoundWave technology. Google works together with various manufacturers for this. They have to put the SoundWave technology in their future smartphones.

The new feature is expected to be available soon in selected regions, including Brazil, and gradually rolled out to other markets.
