Google is working on a fix

Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro come with an inconvenient issue. The phones randomly call people from your contact list. Google is aware and working on a fix, but there are other ways to work around the issue at least for now.

People with the letter J

The problem is that on the one hand the Google Assistant is activated (by itself), then that assistant thinks, even if nothing is said, that a contact should be called. It seems to be mainly about people whose name starts with the letter J. So the first workaround is to rename all Jaspers, Jalissas and Jans in your phone.

On the other hand, it’s not always someone whose name starts with a J, so there’s another possibility. Make sure the Google Assistant activation is turned off, especially if the phone is locked. Because of this, you only get these kinds of unwanted calls if you probably already have your phone at hand. Not ideal either, but hopefully you are aware that someone is on the line.

Google Pixel 6

Disabling the Google Assistant is probably the best way to solve the ghost calls, but of course Pixel 6(Pro) owners are eagerly waiting for a more sustainable solution from Google. When that will come, Google can’t say yet, but it has indicated to 9to5Google that it is working on a solution for this problem, which can of course lead to very awkward situations.

Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are on the rack this week. Literally and figuratively: the smartphone has been subjected to the JerryRigEverything test. And do you not make many unwanted calls, but do you receive them correctly? Then this app against unwanted calls may be able to help you.
