Google is testing widgets in its search engine: do you see them yet?
Some of the users of Google’s search engine will see a series of widgets at the bottom of the main page. Things like the weather, important news, popular videos and the stock price can be viewed on google.com via the desktop. The feature will already be known to Bing users.

It is common practice for Google to occasionally unannounce new features for its services to test. The company then examines how users have interacted with the features and draws conclusions. Google is now throwing new widgets for its search engine on desktop, which are visible to a small part of its users.
9To5Google stumbled upon the widgets by accident and it publishes screenshots. Below the google.com search bar we see a series of information cards:
- The current weather situation
- Important news
- Popular YouTube Videos
- The share price
- Information about local events near you
- Recent information about COVID-19
When users move the mouse over the widgets, the map expands and you see slightly more extensive information. Clicking on a widget will take you to the search results. It is also remarkable that the number of information cards that can be seen on the screen depends on the size of your screen. At the moment there is no way to scroll through the cards yet.

The idea of information widgets below the search results is reminiscent of competitor Bing today. Under the search bar on the home page you will find news and the weather forecast. It is not known whether this feature will be rolled out more widely at a later date. In addition, we also don’t know whether Google’s widgets are even visible to users outside the United States.
