Google is testing a new interface for small screens

Google is slowly preparing to discontinue the Android Auto app for smartphones, so it’s constantly working to improve the functionality of the car service environment. While it recently introduced changes for cars with large screens, it is now testing a new user interface for smaller screens as well. The Android Central portal informed about the news.

The home screen has undergone the biggest change

In the new interface, which was labeled “Coolwalk”, you may be the first to notice new tabs overlapping the left side of the map. You can use them to control the music you’re playing and manage notifications. A new button also appears in the lower left corner of the home screen to activate the cards. Replaced the round button to open the launcher.

The changes occurred in beta version 6.9, but users warn that some features are not working properly. For example, you cannot open a music application using the music control tab to manually change a song or playlist. There were also problems with alerts, they can’t be removed from the new tab. The design of a new environment is not ideal either. However, this is only a beta version, and Google should fix these issues by releasing a stable version.

The new version of Android Auto also offers other new features

In this version, there is also the option to choose from new wallpapers or manually set on which side the driver is sitting. It is also now possible to change in the settings whether the Android Auto service should start automatically on each ride or only if it was started on the last ride.
