Google has started selling the new battery Nest Doorbell

Google officially launched its smart doorbell a few hours ago Nest Doorbell (battery). The new model complements the earlier Nest Hello variant, which necessarily needs to be connected to the mains for its function and has now been renamed Nest Doorbell (wired). This year’s novelty has several noticeable advantages and disadvantages compared to its predecessor. The pros, of course, include the possibility installation almost anywhere. However, battery power has several limitations.

For example, the new Nest Doorbell (battery) cannot offer continuous 24/7 video recording. Even when connected with a cable power supply. In this respect, it is firmly limited to a maximum of three hours. However, combined with a Nest Aware subscription, it can store up to 60 days of eventswhich the camera records in the video bell. Already in the free version, this time it is all the movements and the presence of a specific person, the laid package, animals and vehicles. To do this, the device uses a camera with a resolution 960 x 1280 pixels (30 FPS), observation at an angle of 145 °, 6x digital zoom and night vision up to three meters.

Of course, in addition to optics, the device also has a speaker and a microphone, so it can provide two-way communication. Durability is guaranteed by the standard IP54. Battery life depends on how often you use the bell. With 25 – 30 “events” a day, the energy lasts for about a month, with 2 – 5 interactions a day it can go up to half a year. Battery operation allows you to communicate with the application and Google Assistant. The novelty is available (from the Czech Republic, but still quite complicated) in the official Google e-shop for $ 180, ie approximately CZK 3,900.
