Google has introduced Android 12L for tablets and folding smartphones
Less than two weeks after the launch of the stable version of Android 12, Google introduces it Android 12L. As the letter L suggests, this is a variant of the original system, which is to be modified for larger displays. This means tablets, desktops or folding devices with flexible displays. The information was provided by the portal GSMArena.
Android 12L allows three classes of application display
The Android 12L user interface has enhanced notifications, quick settings, a lock screen, home screen, a recent apps overview bar, and more. For example, the notification panel has a new two-column layout on large screens, and system applications are similarly optimized.
For improved multitasking, Android 12L has a new taskbar that allows you to quickly switch between your favorite applications. This also makes it easier to activate split screen mode – just drag the application from the taskbar. The split screen mode in Android 12L should be available for all applications, which is a clear plus.
At the same time, Google encourages developers to update their applications and better adapt them to different screen sizes. There will be three classes of window sizes, as seen in the image above – compact for smartphones, medium for collapsible and small tablets, and expanded in width for larger tablets and desktops. Developers will have new APIs available to help them work with their optimization.
When will we see Android 12L?
Android 12L will be available early next year. It is currently available in a preview version for developers to use in the emulator, and should soon be available for the Lenovo Tab P12 Pro tablet. Google will release an open and public beta for Pixel later, although most of its features will not be visible on their smaller screens.
