6 features for the AirPods Pro 2

The ‘regular’ AirPods are now ready for their third update, but the first AirPods Pro are still in the shops. Apple is rumored to release an update next year, so we’ll take a sneak peek in this article. Here is our wish list for the AirPods Pro 2.

1. How full is the battery?

Apple is known for its less is more-design philosophy. That is why not only the AirPods Pro themselves are very sleek and minimalistic, but also the charging box.

As a rule, we think that this case looks very nice, with one flaw. In our opinion, Apple should have made the battery indicator a little more extensive. The current version only has one light that lights up green (AirPods are fully charged) or orange (when the AiPods are charging).

As far as I’m concerned, it would be nicer if Apple added a few light stripes to this, so that you can see at a glance how full the earbuds are. Of course you can already find out, for example via the AirPods widget on your iPhone or by asking Siri, but this could be easier, right?

2. Charging with usb-c

Speaking of charging, it’s time for a bigger annoyance. Apple, can we please make sure that the next AirPods Pro with USB-C are charged?

This standard is much more popular than its own Lightning connection, and it also has political winds behind it. The European Commission has been planning for a universal charging standard for years, but the plans have never been more serious than now.

As far as we’re concerned, this is an excellent plan, because Apple has been the odd one out for years when it comes to charging. By switching to USB-C, which the company is fortunately doing with more and more products, we can avoid a lot of electronic waste (e-waste) in the form of discarded Lightning cables.

Furthermore, USB-C is also simply more practical, because devices charge faster with it than via an Apple Lightning cable. In addition, just like Lightning, USB-c is reversible, so it does not matter how you plug the cable into the box of the earbuds.

3. New Features

The differences between the AirPods 3 and AirPods Pro are surprisingly small. The latter has interchangeable ear cushions and active noise cancellation, but the AirPods 3, for example, last longer and offer about the same sound quality. Plus, the price difference between the two is currently only a few bucks (if you don’t buy from Apple itself).

So Apple would be wise to give the AirPods Pro 2 some new features. If the company does not do this, then you give consumers little reason to get the new earphones.

For example, it would be great if Apple gives the next AirPods Pro a special fitness tracker. These sensors would then be able to register your movements very precisely, so that you can find out how intensively you are exercising.

Of course, the audio quality can also be improved. The first AirPods Pro came out in 2019 and the audio world has not stood still in the meantime. In short, it’s time to honor the “Pro” in the name of the earbuds.

4. More colors

The AirPods Pro only come in one color: white. How cool would it be if you could also buy the earplugs in other colors? We ourselves are mainly waiting for a black version of the AirPods Pro, but we would certainly not turn down gray or blue earplugs.

However, it remains to be seen whether Apple will ever comply with this wish. That has everything to do with the strong image of the AirPods (Pro). When you see someone in the street wearing white wireless earbuds, you probably assume that they are made by Apple.

On the other hand, we wouldn’t be surprised if the next AirPods Pro come in different colors. Little by little, Apple’s range has become much more colorful in recent years. For example, you can buy the iMac computer from 2021 in all kinds of fresh colors, just like the iPhone 13.

5. Ear cushions made of different material?

A big advantage of the AirPods Pro compared to the AirPods 3 are the interchangeable ear cushions. These come in different sizes, so there is always a variant that fits your ears like a glove.

The ear cushions are made of silicone and therefore quite slippery. For some people, the AirPods Pro still fall out relatively easily. Perhaps it is an option to come up with something on this, for example by making the cushions of a less slippery material.

6. Replaceable Batteries

Apple’s future is sustainable. The company aims to be completely climate neutral by 2030. It would therefore be to the credit of the manufacturer if its products also focus on sustainability.

For the next AirPods Pro, this is not so difficult at all: make the batteries replaceable. In that case, you can simply replace the batteries yourself when they run out, so you don’t have to buy a new set.
