Google Bard is getting extensions soon! Here’s what to expect

Not sure where to start using AI chatbot Google Bard? We’ve already got you started with our article on good prompts and 10 things you can do with Bard. There’s also something coming from Google to help people: extensions. And they seem to be coming quite soon.

Extensions for Bard

It’s not the first time we’ve heard about the extensions for Google Bard: Google announced it during Google I/O 2023 in May, but since then it’s been a bit quiet around this Chrome-like extra for Bard. Now it appears that they are almost there and from YouTube, Adobe Firefly and more. Google even gave 9to5Google an insight into the current state of technology.

The handy thing about those extensions must be that you can use Bard for more services. For example, you can have it look up YouTube videos that are actually YouTube videos. In the example below, Google says it has found YouTube videos, but when you click on them, you really go to a random website instead of YouTube itself. Quite crazy actually: both are from Google itself. Other extensions expected are also genuine with Google’s own products, such as Flights and Maps.

Work on the AI shop

9to5Google notes that the extensions aren’t working yet, which is probably because Google doesn’t really want to turn it on until it’s working properly. That is a pity, because we would have liked to learn more about it. We ourselves think that Bard could use some work in itself. For example, he wrongly declared our Patrick dead today (again: wrongly), but he makes more blunders. You can see it here.
