Google back after an outage caused by an update
Google experienced an outage today, with Search and Maps being unavailable. It was no longer possible to do a search or to use the mapping service, whether to locate a place, take advantage of the GPS and more.
Here’s what Google said about its outage:
We are aware of a software update issue that occurred that briefly affected the availability of Google Search and Maps, and we apologize for the inconvenience. We worked quickly to resolve the issue and our services are back online.

People affected by the issue sometimes saw a 500 internal error or a 502 error when trying to search. Even the Google home page seemed to take longer to load. Other Google services, such as Gmail, the Play Store and YouTube, were not affected.
The “advantage” is that the breakdown took place during the night. The Europeans therefore escaped it, except for those who were still standing. Their backup plan was to temporarily use another search engine, like Bing or DuckDuckGo.
