Google Assistant can now search for guests in podcasts

Google Assistant can now search podcasts even better. Imagine that you are a fan of, for example, Erik Scherder or Gloria Wekker: you know which podcast he or she is in, but not in which episode: now you can easily ask. The Google Assistant will find the episode if you know the right podcast. The assistant can also immediately play a relevant episode.

In line with this, it is also possible to search by episode or subject. That means it no longer just has to be “Okay Google, play the Tetalk podcast” anymore, but you can also say: “Okay Google, play the Really Happened episode about Jonna ter Veer”. At least: that is technically what should become possible soon. At the moment it only seems to be possible in English, because in Dutch it opens either YouTube or a Google search result. For example, in English they say (via 9to5Google): “Play the Pivot episode with Bob Iger”.

The new option is thanks to Android Auto. Along with the redesign of the app, there are several new features. One of those new features is, for example, a play bench scrubber: scrubbing means that you quickly go through a video by dragging within the play bar. This way you can quickly search for a specific part in a video that you want to see. So that is a lot better than the fast forward and rewind that was possible until now.

The new feature isn’t live in beta yet, but it’s coming soon. Google would like to inspire people to turn on a podcast in the car more often and by making it as easy as possible to find a podcast, it is more attractive to turn on one.
