Going on with the 9 euro ticket would be too much

Many consumers have opted for the 9-euro ticket over the past few weeks, and millions of tickets have been sold. However, the cheap ticket cannot do without criticism. The federal government’s rail commissioner believes that a successor would push the rail network to its limits.

Railway officer: 9-euro ticket has overloaded the rail network

The suggestions as to how the 9-euro ticket could continue from September continue. Just carry on as before, at least for the time being, introduce a 29 or 69 euro ticket or pay 1 euro a day for a whole year. There are at least as many ideas as there are people who publicly contribute their part to the debate.

But there are also those who want nothing more to do with the 9-euro ticket after August. One of them is probably Michael Theurer (FDP), Federal Government Commissioner for Rail Transport. “I don’t think much of the 0-euro ticket, for example. It is neither affordable nor useful. Prices also have a steering effect and the railway network is sometimes heavily overloaded”, the FDP man told the Rheinische Post (source: mirror).

“The 69-euro ticket, in turn, could mean that network tickets in certain transport associations such as Berlin become more expensive. That would not make much sense either,” Theurer continues. However, there is no explanation for this assessment.

one thing is certain: Alternatives to the 9-euro ticket – albeit in a different form – are not promised by Theurer. In his opinion, consistently high passenger numbers, such as the 9-euro ticket brings with it, are too much for rail. At least the complete collapse has not happened so far, even if many full trains are on the way.

Positive conclusion to the 9-euro ticket, but it will be over from September

Nevertheless, the railway officer of the traffic light coalition sees the 9-euro ticket positively in its current form. But that includes that End September 1st. The consumer advice centers, for example, warn of this. The Association of German Transport Companies (VDV) had also suggested the seamless continuation of the 9-euro ticket.

Meanwhile, the official side is still clear: The 9-euro ticket should be one represent a one-time relief for citizens and it stays that way. Chancellor Scholz, Finance Minister Lindner and Transport Minister Wissing have all rebuffed a successor from the federal government.
