Gmail certification: when and how to obtain the blue badge?

The mail manager is therefore about to add a blue tick next to verified senders. This will be based on the BIMI system, for Brand Indicators for Message Identification, a tool designed by Google to authenticate its users.

A badge to certify official accounts

Email scams are one of the main sources of hacking and theft of sensitive data. Many accounts claiming to be from this or that administration play with the naivety of their interlocutors to extract information or money. But this practice will come up against a pitfall; Google has indeed justannounce the establishment a verification badge for official accounts, i.e. those holding an official domain name.

The badge will be visible to all

In its statement, Google emphasizes the importance of authenticating emails received by users, in order to stop spam and build trust in senders. Logically therefore, the visibility of the Gmail blue tick will be extended to all users of the platform.

How do I get my Gmail certification?

If you are a Gmail user, maybe you want to get blue certification. To get it, first make sure you meet the eligibility requirements:

  • You must own the domain name used by your professional email
  • You must justify a brand logo to be validated
  • Your organization must have adopted DMARCprotection against phishing and spam

If these conditions are met, you can then apply for the VMC, either for the verified brand certificate, then configure BIMI. Once your file has been validated by Google, your email will therefore be eligible for the blue Gmail badge.

Deployment in early May 2023

At the start of the year, we are seeing efforts on the part of Google in terms of security. A few days ago, we told you about this 2022 security report shared by the Californian firm. A trend that is confirmed, with the rapid deployment of this Gmail update. By May 6, certification badges should be fully integrated into the interface.

Google communicates a lot about the integration of Bard, its AI, as a writing assistant on Gmail. However, the most important update seems to be the most discreet, as this blue badge could prove to be a powerful protection against spam.
