While the whole world is talking about TikTok and Instagram, the reality of social media usage in Germany is different. According to a new study, a well-known network made it to first place – and even grew strongly in 2022.

Study: Facebook is Germany’s number one

The new ARD/ZDF online study has shown that Facebook the most popular social network in Germany is. 35 percent of the people surveyed in Germany aged 14 and over visit Mark Zuckerberg’s network at least once a week. Surprisingly, the proportion has even increased in recent years. In 2020 it was still 26 percent, a year later 28 percent.

This also remains the case with the younger German audience supposed boomer network Facebook popular. 42 percent of 14 to 29-year-olds stop by there at least once a week. The proportion is even higher at 47 percent among 30 to 49 year olds. There is a tendency for slightly more men than women to open the Facebook app or the web version of the network.

According to the study 80 percent of the German population aged 14 and over use the Internet every day. A year ago it was 76 percent, before that it was 72 percent. From time to time the Internet is used by 95 percent of those surveyed, and there have been hardly any changes here in recent years.

100 percent of those surveyed between the ages of 14 and 19 stated that they used the internet every day. Between the ages of 20 and 29 it is 99 percent. From the age of 70 it is about every second person (source: ARD/ZDF online study).
