Wireless charger makes tables invisible to the charging station

A new Qi charging pad is celebrating its debut at Ikea, which puts previous devices in the shade in terms of practical use. Because not only does the sometimes annoying charging cable to the mobile phone disappear, the pad itself can no longer be seen. It turns almost every table into a charging station.

It’s not Ikea’s first wireless charging pad, nowhere near. But “Sjömärke” is not just the newest device in the “Wireless Charging & Accessories” category, it is probably also the most practical – and unfortunately the most expensive. But what does Sjömärke do in comparison to Ikea’s other Qi charging stations for smartphones and the like?

Sjömärke: Qi charging pad from Ikea disappears under the table

The key difference: You will never see Ikea’s new charging pad in everyday life. Sjömärke is placed under the table, compatible smartphones or other devices that can be charged using the Qi standard then only have to be placed in the right place and automatically start to supply themselves with electricity.

The charging pad from Ikea delivers Electricity with up to 5 watts, the “Qi 1.2.4BPP” standard is supported. As is usual with wireless charging, this means longer waiting times than, for example, with a fast-charging cable charger. In return, you save yourself the mess of cables.

However, there are a few things to consider: According to Ikea, the range is limited, so the charger should only be attached to tables, their Table top between 8 and 22 mm thick is. Tables made of wood or plastic are possible, metal would interfere with the charging process. Theoretically, the charging pad can also be attached to a glass table using adhesive strips – but then it would just be visible.

An inconspicuous sticker is included, which attaches the mark the correct position of the smartphone target. Otherwise you can’t see anything of the charger except maybe the cable that leads out from under the table. It is installed using adhesive strips or the charging pad is screwed to the table from below. If you risk a look under the tabletop, you can see the charging status on the basis of an LED display. Built-in temperature and current sensors should ensure the necessary security.

“Oh miracle!” – as you do in Video see, our colleague Frank already suspected some time ago that Qi-Laden would also work directly at the table:

Sjömärke is Ikea’s most expensive charging pad

For the Sjömärke charging pad you take 29.99 euros (see at Ikea) – an investment that can be worthwhile, but also significantly more expensive than the previous wireless chargers from the furniture store. But if you value a tidy home, Sjömärke is a suitable alternative, which is now available online and in Ikea branches.
