BSI: The iPhone and iPad are safe

When Apple introduces new products, the company always takes great care to say that the devices are secure and protect users’ privacy. The BSI has now officially confirmed that this is not only intended for marketing (source: BSI). The iPhones and iPads are not just safe, they are Thanks to the embedded security functions, it can also be used for classified information in the “For official use only” category. Mobile access to important information is thus possible.

Not only the hardware is responsible for the high level of security, but also the software in the form of iOS and iPadOS. Apple itself agreed to the examination by the BSI and helped with it. According to the BSI, the test was carried out according to the internationally recognized standards and methods of the Common Criteria. The high security standard applies primarily to pre-installed first-party apps such as e-mail, calendar and contacts. Commercially available iPhones and iPads were classified as very secure and are therefore suitable for “government use by federal authorities”. In the future, new iOS and iPadOS versions will be checked regularly.

What’s new in iOS 16:

Good for Apple and the users

The confirmation of the security of the iPhone and iPad is of course very good for Apple, because in the end it can also be advertised. In addition, users of the devices can be sure that the iPhone and iPad meet the security standards promised by Apple and are even suitable for classified information on duty. Apple’s work over the last few years is paying off here and is now being rewarded by the BSI.
