We had to wait a long time for it, but finally it is possible; you can hide your online status from everyone. Until now it was still the case that you could hide your last seen, but now the possibilities have expanded.

WhatsApp: turn off online status

WhatsApp has quietly added a feature to both the Android and iOS apps. It is now possible to disable the Online status. It has been possible for some time to disable your ‘Last seen’. Someone else couldn’t see that you were online for the last time at 13:33, for example. If you opened WhatsApp, the other person could see that you were online at that time. Not every WhatsApp user was happy with that, and something has now been done about it, DroidApp discovered.

So, with a new privacy setting available now, you can disable others seeing you online. You have two choices at this setting; visible to all, or same as last seen. If you don’t set your last seen for anyone, this setting will also be inherited for your online status. If you turn it off for others, you won’t be able to see it on others either.
