Free is committed: a free mobile plan for Ukrainian refugees

As you know, the war in Ukraine is devastating and many nationals fleeing the bombardments are welcomed in France. Francophones or immigrant families, Ukrainians seek their place in the country of Descartes, Voltaire and Zizou. The problem with Ukraine is that this country is not part of the EU and communications are expensive as are roaming charges for mobile Internet. In short, refugees find it difficult to communicate, especially since in Ukraine, telephone numbers are not systematically associated with contracts.

It is possible to buy a SIM card in a kiosk without ever having to enter a postal address. You recharge your smartphone with prepaid cards, charging stations or via the Internet. In short, if you are far from Ukraine without the possibility of recharging your plan, you will have difficulty calling, especially since certain SIM cards are blocked outside the country.

Free has it all figured out!

This is where Free’s offer comes in. On presentation of a Ukrainian passport in the shop you havea free SIM card with 10 GB of 4G/4G+ data, 4 hours of communication in France and Poland and unlimited calls to Ukraine (fixed and portable). SMS are unlimited to France, Poland and Ukraine. All this until May 31, 2022. Why Poland? Because this border country has hosted a very large majority of refugees, women and children, and it is likely that Ukrainians in France know people who have remained in this border country.

Unlimited calls to Ukraine are also welcome for women and children who want to talk to their dads, uncles or grandpas who have stayed on as reservists or for active service. Note that minors are also affected by the measure.

After May 31, the plan will be terminated automatically. We got in touch with Free to find out if this phone number could be kept or if the offer could be renewed…
