Ford announces that it will retain Apple’s CarPlay support, unlike General Motors

General Motors recently announced the discontinuation of CarPlay support in its upcoming electric cars. Naturally, this did not please fans of Apple’s system. They will be able to fall back on other manufacturers, including Ford.

“We continue to offer Apple CarPlay and Android Auto because customers appreciate this feature that allows them to easily access and control apps on their smartphone — especially our EV customers, as some EVs don’t offer these current features »a Ford spokesperson told 9to5Mac.

As said before, General Motors has decided to abandon CarPlay, but it is not alone in this story. There is also Rivian which, for once, does not support Apple’s system from the start. The manager, RJ Scaringe, explained that he did not want to depend on a third party company (Apple in this case) for the on-board software of his cars.

There is also the case of Tesla, but there too the refusal to support CarPlay has been a reality since day one. And there are no signs to suggest any support in the near future.

In and of itself, Ford’s continued support for CarPlay is hardly a surprise. Indeed, Apple unveiled the new generation of CarPlay last year which will be available this year and Ford had been announced as one of the partners. We should find out a bit more at WWDC 2023 in June.
