First price details of the monster electric car leaked
With the EV9, Kia has a gigantic brother for the successful EV6 electric car up its sleeve. It should be released on the streets in 2023. However, official details about the monster SUV are still sparse. A survey of US customers of the brand now sheds light on a price that is really impressive.
Kia takes a deep look: giant electric car could be a real bargain
That could be anywhere from $56,000 to $73,000. Converted to the current costs of around 51,500 to just over 67,000 euros. The price range comes from a Kia survey conducted by a Kia Telluride driver with colleagues from Electrek has shared. The Telluride is Kia’s largest passenger car to date – at least until the EV9 is introduced.
It is unclear whether the American prices in the survey included taxes. Therefore, even with these preliminary asking prices, it can still be to significant deviations. In addition, Kia should hope that the survey will give an impression of the mood in terms of the prices and equipment of the new electric SUV. We can therefore regard neither the upper nor the lower limit as set.
Rather, Kia shows one Direction in which the EV9 could go – and it is promising. Because Kia has created the large electric SUV as a seven-seater with a third row of seats. If you can actually keep the prices at this level, the South Koreans would Clearly undercut competition in the US market. Model X and Rivian R1S are considered comparable electric SUVs (source: Insideevs), at least as far as space is concerned. They both go for significantly more money.
On request, Kia confirmed the survey in the USA to Electrek. But the carmaker also makes it clear that it is the prices are not fixed quantities. A lot could change before the official launch later this year.
This is how Kia envisions the EV9 as a concept:
Too little range? EV9 seems to be running out of steam
We don’t know whether the range is one of them. According to the survey, the between around 350 and 460 km lie. If that’s true, Kia makes compromises here. When the concept for the EV9 was presented, up to 540 km were planned.
Furthermore, Kia asks for a total of five trim levels. Various ranges are offered, and there are also versions without a sunroof and different levels of engine power. Customers should also be able to choose between wheel sizes, all-wheel drive is also optional. However, it is unlikely that five variants will ultimately prevail – especially right at the market launch.
