5 apps to save on fuel costs

A visit to a gas station will be the least fun part of driving for many motorists. It wasn’t, but certainly not with today’s fuel prices. DroidApp helps you; these five applications help you save at the pump.

Cheap fuel apps

Do you want to refuel cheaply? That can sometimes be a challenge in the Netherlands. The price for a liter of petrol or diesel breaks record after record. Do you want to save on fuel costs and know where and how you can refuel cheaply? Then it can certainly pay off to deviate from your ‘favorite’ gas station where you normally go. Instead of filling up ‘at home’, there may be a much cheaper gas station on the way to work, or you can save a lot of money with a small detour. There are not only apps to compare petrol prices, but also to refuel with a discount right away. We list them here.

ANWB On the way

The ANWB Weg app is an extensive application for basically every motorist. With the app you have insight into parking spaces, their prices and the parking garages can also be found in the application. In this article we will of course explain the options for refueling. At the bottom of the screen you have the option ‘Tank & Charge’. On the map you will find an overview of the gas stations (and, if enabled, also the charging points). At this gas station you can immediately see the price per liter. You can set yourself whether you want to see the liter price of Euro95, Euro98, LPG, diesel or something else. The height of the price is also immediately visible through colors.

DirectLease Tank Service

Another handy application for checking fuel prices is the DirectLease Tankservice app. The application is available to everyone and can be used. It is a frequently used app in the editorial office. On the map you will immediately see the colored markers that directly indicate the price level of the liter price. The greener/bluer, the cheaper. If you tap on a gas station, you will also receive information about the available facilities such as a car wash, open 24 hours, unmanned or other information. This app does not only work in the Netherlands, petrol stations in Belgium are also shown in DirectLease Tankservice. The street name, telephone number and opening times can also be found in the app.

1-2-3 Refueling

Do you live close to the German border, or are you planning a day trip to Germany? Then download the 1-2-3 Refueling app. We have previously discussed this application on DroidApp and it shows all current fuel prices in Germany. You choose the type of fuel and see exactly the locations on the map where you can go. Since the fuel prices throughout Germany fluctuate during the day, the app may sometimes be just a bit off, but my experience is that the prices are usually right. You can navigate directly to the gas station, add it as a favorite and as a paying member you can accurately consult the price history.

Google Maps

Is Google Maps useful for fuel prices? Not in the Netherlands, but in Belgium, Germany, Sweden and several other countries, among others, the liter prices are shown in the map service. Prices are rounded to two decimal places and the feature has been available for a year. Google Maps does not offer many options in this. Just tap a gas station and you will see the price of some fuels offered. Prices of premium fuels are missing.

Tamoil

With the application of the Tamoil gas station you can save for an extra discount at the pump. After installing, log in with the Tamoil account you created. The first two refueling you get a 5 eurocent discount per liter and that is in any case a nice bonus. You will then receive a 1 euro cent discount per liter for each subsequent refueling. When you have refueled 350 liters, you will receive a 5 eurocent discount per liter on the next refueling. The operation is simple. If you are at the gas station, you first indicate in the app that you will refuel at the relevant station, enter the pump number, and the discount will be automatically deducted.

Bonus tip

Do you want even more control over your fuel consumption and its costs? Then it can pay off to download a handy application for this. I am an avid user of Fuelio, an application that allows you to accurately track your fuel consumption and car costs. Another tip we can share with you; with the United Consumers fuel card that you can request, you will receive a discount on your refueling at all participating gas stations, without it costing you any money. This is possible at more than 600 gas stations in the Netherlands.
