A new version of the Income Tax Return app is available in the Google Play Store. The application can be used to do your tax return for the past year. When you log in with your DigiD, the data is retrieved and you can see what the Tax and Customs Administration has already filled in for you. If this is correct, you can sign and submit the declaration directly via the app. New this year is that you need the DigiD app to log in. It must be on the same device.

Other changes have also been made. The new version of the Income Tax Declaration app is more secure and user-friendly. Another change concerns the filling in of your partner’s details. If you have a tax partner, he or she must also have the DigiD app on his or her tablet or smartphone.

In a number of cases, it is not possible to do the income tax via the app. You cannot use it in the following situations;

  • did not have the same tax partner throughout the year
  • bought or sold your home and therefore had deductible costs
  • had a residual debt for a former owner-occupied home
  • temporarily rented out your home, for example via Airbnb
  • owned a business
  • share in an undivided inheritance
  • income from other work
  • lived abroad
  • income from abroad
  • assets abroad
  • co-parent, and your minor child was not registered at your address
  • deductions, such as gifts, healthcare costs or study costs
