The name Facebook will soon be a thing of the past, the reason is the metaverse. At least, everything points to that. A big shock.

CU2, Hyves, MySpace. Just a few social networking sites that have failed to stay relevant in the long term. Mark Zuckerberg’s Facebook did just that. The company grew into a tech giant at the level of Google and Apple. Especially because WhatsApp and Instagram were bought and fall under Facebook.

But the name Facebook also has a lot of trouble. Live-streamed murders, corporate power, influence in political elections. No, not everything is so positive about Facebook. Maybe it’s a good thing the name goes in the trash. In any case, it looks like it.

According to The Verge, Mark Zuckerberg will announce next week that Facebook will continue under a new name. The new name would suit the company better. For example, in the coming years, Facebook will mainly focus on metaverse technology. The metaverse is a virtual world without borders. Companies can come up with all kinds of applications in that metaverse, which creates an overlap. A world as we know it today, but completely digital. Switch from a digital meeting to your favorite games in the same virtual environment. That’s the metaverse in a nutshell.

A new name could also mean a fresh start for Zuckerberg. It remains to be seen what this all means. We will know more in the short term!
