No time right now?

A new tool for advertisers is supposed to change the positioning of ads in the news feed. Companies should be able to choose certain topics that should not appear next to their ad.

Facebook wants to enable advertisers to control the environment of their advertisements in the news feed. You should be able to exclude certain topics, shares Facebook.

“This control will help allay advertisers’ concerns that their ads will appear next to certain topics in the news feed,” explains Facebook.

No children’s toys next to crime novels

For example, advertising for children’s toys could no longer appear next to a post about a crime series. To do this, advertisers would have to define topics such as “crime and tragedy” beforehand, next to which they do not want to see their ads.

The tool will initially only be available to a limited number of customers. Development and testing could take a year, according to Facebook.

After the advertising boycott last year, the topic of brand safety has become more important for platforms. In mid-June, numerous advertisers stopped placing ads on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter under the motto #StopHateForProfit. Facebook had then promised to do more against content such as hatspeech.
