Extra security on WhatsApp: that’s how it should be!

Do lend your phone, but find access to WhatsApp just too much of a good thing: WhatsApp offers extra security.

Just because you trust someone with something personal, doesn’t necessarily mean you have to open everything completely. There are things that are a little more sensitive. Practical example: lending your phone to someone. Maybe that’s just handy, but you don’t want your WhatsApp conversations to just end up on the street. WhatsApp itself came up with the solution for extra security a while ago.

WhatsApp has built in a bit of extra security. The app offers the option of extra security for the app compared to your phone. In other words, you need to use biometrics to unlock your phone and then again to open WhatsApp. For example, your data within WhatsApp is less sensitive.

We are also not the least and we explain how you enable WhatsApp security in this way, at least on iOS. It works almost identically on Android, except that the menus look a bit different.

First, press the WhatsApp settings, in this case at the bottom right of the screen. Then you will arrive at the screen below.

There you press ‘Account’ and you should end up here:

From there, press ‘Privacy’ at the top. Then you come to the following screen:

And from there it’s the bottom option ‘screen lock’. In the case of the iPhone X and newer, it is FaceID, in the case of older iPhones or the SE, it is TouchID. Every time you want to open WhatsApp, it will ask for one of these biometric data.

Maybe you already knew this for a long time or maybe you think the option is completely unnecessary, but that’s how you do a little extra security on WhatsApp.
