Evidence is mounting that the new Switch dock can handle both 4K and 60 fps -apkrig

A new revision of the Nintendo Switch with OLED display has been on sale since last week, which we coincidentally evaluated today in our review. In addition to the new display, redesigned stand or support for wireless headphones connected via Bluetooth, you will also find a new dock in the package. We knew in advance that one of the most pleasant improvements would be mentioned consoles. In addition, even before the launch of the console, it was speculated that the new dock could potentially serve to increase the performance of the entire platform, which did not happen in the end, but not everyone wants to imagine this idea. Therefore, there is still talk that the dock could at least make the signal output available in 4K while maintaining 60 fps, and new evidence is now provided by content creator KuwlunDram.

He spoke on Twitter about his own knowledge, which he had gained after the ordered console arrived at his home. First of all, the dock disassembled and confirmed that the chip, which is located inside, can process the signal in the mentioned 4K resolution according to the specifications. This is a Realtek chip with the type designation RTD2172N KBDQH1, which should be in accordance with the information from insiders dealing with the examination of the Nintendo Switch firmware. Dataminer SciresM spoke in January that the console’s management software refers to a Realtek chip with the same features, so it turns out that Nintendo has at least made some preparations.

KuwlunDram then used the added HDMI cable from the OLED version of the Switch package for its Xbox One X, and the console interface from Microsoft confirmed that it was a cable that supports UHD resolution as well as those 60 Hz. The last point, which is based on the Tegra X1 chip, which drives the console itself, in proving the thesis of supporting a higher than stated resolution. This chip is also capable of processing video signals in 4K and 60 fps, which closes the circle, but does not provide answers to specific questions whether Nintendo wants to use these hardware options in the future, or for which console it actually prepared them. We know that the software enabled the connection of wireless headphones and it is almost certain that the blocking of the output in 4K resolution is again controlled by the firmware. However, this means that Nintendo will want to use the new dock even in the case of constant discussions Pro version of the Switch sometime in the future, if the dimensions fit and the dock was universal? Or will Switch offer 4K at least for series, movies or YouTube, when no game yet supports 4K resolution?

There are many questions, no answers, but in conclusion, it should be noted that based on this knowledge, no one assumes that the Switch is able to play games in such a resolution. It is also unlikely that the dock itself would take care of the upscale, given the nature of the chip described and its general capabilities. So the only thing that would most likely be used for 4K resolution output is purely non-gaming content.
