Eutelsat launches new service in Europe with immediate effect

Eutelsat is now offering satellite internet in Europe. After the successful launch of the latest generation of satellite technology, the company could become a real alternative to Starlink and Co.

One topic appears to be gaining in importance over the next few years: satellite communications. With Starlink, Elon Musk demonstrated that access to the Internet is possible from almost anywhere. Even in the Ukraine conflict, the system ensures secure access to informative sources. And a smartphone manufacturer is now jumping on this train.

At its event last Wednesday, Apple presented the new iPhone models that can contact emergency services via satellite in an emergency. With all the announcements, one thing stands out the most: the offers mostly come from the United States and are often not available in Europe. However, that could change soon.

Eutelsat brings satellite internet to Europe

The European company Eutelsat recently launched a new generation of satellites. In interaction with other satellites in Earth orbit, citizens in Europe, North Africa and the Middle East have access to broadband Internet in this way. A capacity of around 500 gigabits per second should be possible.

That’s about seven times what previous generations of the company’s satellites did. Users in remote regions of Europe, North Africa and the Middle East benefit from this.

In addition, large companies such as the mobile operator Orange in France and the Italian Telekom also benefit from it.

Up to 100 Mbit/s in the download for 70 euros

Private customers can now book satellite Internet via the Eutelsat website. Download speeds of up to 100 megabits per second are currently possible. In addition, consumers can upload three megabits per second.

The price is around EUR 70 per month, the connection costs are currently EUR 1. Although the upload still leaves something to be desired, the offer should be a real alternative to conventional providers for many.

Eutelsat shows that tech pioneers don’t always have to come from the United States. The company has been offering satellite-related services for 45 years.

The new offers for end customers outside of the American continent could create real competition for SpaceX. In view of the high price, however, it remains to be seen how the new service will be received.
