Dutch company is working with Eve on window coverings for smart homes

The Dutch Coulisse is working with Eve on special window coverings for smart homes. With Eve Systems, the company from Twente is developing a number of smart motors that can open and close roller blinds and other window coverings. Ideal for a smart home, especially because it works with the brand new Matter smart home standard, AWSmart writes.

Eve MotionBlinds

Eve already has smart solutions for your home. It made Eve MotionBlinds that work with Apple HomeKit and Thread. For example, you can darken your room remotely by closing the curtains or other window coverings. Or, for example, make it easier to get out of bed by opening them in the morning and waking up in a more natural way.

You do that by using an app and WiFi. You can program and operate the window covering motor, for example, and also include it in a smart home routine. Think of a routine when you wake up, where the curtains open automatically when your alarm goes off, with the heating also turning on immediately. It is still possible to open and close the window covering manually.

Matter

Matter is the new smart home standard that will be launched later this year. All kinds of large companies are participating in this, including Google, IKEA, Apple, Amazon and Huawei. The idea is that the products of at least those brands will soon be able to communicate with each other via this new protocol. This allows you to create a smooth smarthome experience with different brands at home.

The Eve MotionBlinds have the big plus that the data does not go over the internet: the engines store the data locally instead of in the cloud. The motors come in all shapes and sizes so that they can work in many homes. They have a battery that you can charge with a USB-C cable, which means it’s wireless. That saves hanging behind window coverings and also looks nicer. Moreover, you only have to charge it once or twice a year, so you don’t have to worry about it much.

The window coverings will be released later this year and will therefore be available in the Netherlands.
