Epic Games acquires Aquiris, the studio behind Horizon Chase
New acquisition for Epic Games, with the creator of Fortnite which announces the acquisition of Aquiris. The Brazilian studio notably developed the games Horizon Chase 2, Wonderbox And Looney Tunes World of Mayhem.
Epic Games reveals that it first invested in Aquiris in early 2022. Today, the group is completely buying out the studio. The amount of the acquisition is not publicly disclosed. The Aquiris team will form the backbone of Epic Games Brazil, Epic’s first studio in Latin America.
Based in Porto Alegre, the Aquiris developer team will join Epic Games to create “revolutionary content and social experiences in Fortnite”let it be known the press release.

We’re excited to leverage our experience using the Unreal Engine in game development to help shape the future of Fortnite.”said Mauricio Longoni, boss of Aquiris and now studio director of Epic Games Brazil. “Aquiris has been at the forefront of game development in Brazil and Latin America, and its integration with Epic Games will shine a light on developers in our region for the entire industry”.
Epic Games has acquired a number of game development companies over the past few years. Some of these are companies that create tools to help make games, like RAD Game Tools and SuperAwesome. The group has also acquired game development studios, such as Mediatonic, the creator of Fall Guysand Psyonix, the studio behind Rocket League.
