2) Free up storage space by uninstalling apps

Don’t want to reset the iPhone, but just want to free up some space on your device? Then you may already know that completely emptying your iPhone will never work. Your storage space is always partly taken up by iOS. Only the rest is available for apps, photos, music, videos and more.

If you have little storage space left, you can of course delete photos, music and videos. But it’s easier to uninstall some apps you don’t use anyway. You do this as follows:

  • Find an app you want to uninstall and long press on it;
  • Tap on ‘Delete app’;
  • Tap “Delete App” again.

3) Clean up apps

Well, “clean up apps” sounds almost the same as “uninstall apps,” but there’s an important difference. When you delete an app, you also delete all associated documents and data (unless the app is using your iCloud storage). If you ever reinstall the app, you will start all over again.

When you clean up an app, its associated documents and data are preserved and restored if you ever reinstall the app. This is ideal for apps that you don’t need for now, but want to use again in the future. Cleaning an app is done in the following way:

  • Open the Settings app and tap “General”;
  • Tap on ‘iPhone Storage’;
  • Tap on the app you want to ’empty’;
  • Tap Clean Up.

4) Clear Safari cache

This last trick in our iPhone tips relates to Safari. While browsing, Safari stores all kinds of data. And of course, that data also takes up storage space.

Because data is stored over time that is no longer relevant, it is a good idea to empty the cache (storage) of Safari once in a while. You do that like this:

  • Open the Settings app;
  • Scroll down and tap on ‘Safari’;
  • Scroll down and tap ‘Clear History and Website Data’
  • Tap Clear History and Data.

Not enough storage space yet?

If you are unable to empty your iPhone sufficiently, there is no other option than to upgrade. Expanding the storage space is not possible. Then the iPhone 14 Pro or 13 Pro is a good choice. The cheapest iPhone 14 Pro has 128 GB (€ 1,129) of storage space. If you’re going for maximum storage space, choose the 1TB (€1,634) variant of the iPhone 14 Pro.
